stress managementcounseling |
Just
like in any other problem-solving process, the first step in managing stress is
identifying and acknowledging the existence of the crisis, which in this case
is the psychological disturbance. This in turn creates the need for counseling
upon which the approach to be used is devised. The counselor then gathers the
tools required for the session as well as create a setting that provides a
favourable atmosphere for the process. Begin by defining the problem and its implication
and come up with a list of possible solutions. Weigh all options and pick the
best of them, which is to be implemented. After counseling, the counselor also
holds regular follow-up sessions with the client to evaluate the validity of
the chosen strategy and establish whether the desired goals were attained.
The
core purpose of the process is to help the client overcome the discomfort as
well as formulate own strategies of dealing with such pressures in future. It
also plays an important role in helping the client to identify and capitalise
on their strengths as well as work out solutions to overcome their weaknesses.
